Becoming a member of New Sussex Singers
We are always pleased to hear from singers who are interested in joining New Sussex Singers.

Information about auditions
Membership is by audition. This will normally require an applicant to perform two solo songs of their own choice suitable to their vocal range. A competent accompanist will be provided unless the applicant prefers to bring his/her own. These pieces may be performed from memory or with copies as the applicant prefers. The solos are usually followed by short vocal and sight-reading exercises.

Information about membership of New Sussex Singers
The other pages on this website give a good flavour of our size, activities, and repertoire.

Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings and alternate (unequally!) between Haywards Heath and Lewes. Start time is 7.30pm and we try to finish promptly at 9.30pm. We normally break during August and between Christmas and the New Year.

Members must aim to attend all rehearsals for specific concerts. However, we do recognise this may not always be possible and some leeway for necessary business or domestic requirements may be allowed by the Music Director.

There is an annual subscription for members which covers rehearsal venue costs and music. Where we are performing major works, or from choral compilations, members may purchase their own copies if they so wish. Otherwise they will be provided.

New Sussex Singers is "owned" by its members and operates under a management committee comprising elected members and the Music Director. We aim to be a democratic society.

If you would like to audition to join us, please send us an and include details about the following:

  • Your voice (soprano, alto, tenor, bass)
  • Style (lycric, coloratura, profundo)
  • Choral background
  • Solo experience
  • Vocal training
